Rejuvenating the Orpheum Theatre
The curtain has gone up on the Orpheum Theatre this past week, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to reveal to you all of the shining, shimmering, and splendid updates we’ve made to the theatre’s façade.
Visitors of the theatre may have noticed a colossal, white tarp plastered with colorful and fun show-posters hanging around the building’s exterior walls this year. Although the performances you’d find inside the theatre were of the same, exceptional caliber of what we’ve all come to expect from the razzle-dazzle of Broadway, we found that it was time to match the outside of the theatre with a bit of tender, loving care.
Over the past nine months, the work that was done has been pretty extensive. We cleaned, scraped, repainted, repaired, re-lamped, maintained, and refreshed the Orpheum’s façade, the blade, and its marquee. Although the exterior of the building may look a little different, it was imperative to SHN that the original and historical integrity of this landmark stay the same. The entire exterior of the theatre still boasts its original cream color and its trim and accent pieces still have the same green highlights. The difference now is that the paint has been sandblasted and restored to all of its archetypal glory. Because of this, the intricate details and ornamental carvings on the theatre’s exterior really stand out as unique elements in its architecture.
The Orpheum blade sign has also been reconditioned with new vinyl, paint, and lights. Similarly, the marquee has also been repainted and refreshed. We hope you’ll be able to visit us soon to check out of all the dazzling changes we have made to the Orpheum Theatre!
