Member Spotlight: Arthur Reker
SHN Member Arthur Reker—a big Hello, Dolly! fan from Fresno—is inspired by Dolly’s can-do attitude. Learn more about his life, below.
What are your top five favorite Broadway shows?
1. The Book of Mormon
4. Hello, Dolly!
What was the first Broadway show you saw?
Hello, Dolly! I was 10 when Ginger Rogers brought it to Fresno, and I wanted to run away with the show.
Which character in a musical or play do you most identify with?
I have to say I’m attracted to Dolly’s sunniness. Every time she’s backed into a corner she fights and sings her way out.
Have you ever performed on stage?
Bob Cratchit in my fifth-grade production of A Christmas Carol. I was sensational.
What does Broadway mean to you?
Two or three hours away from all that swirls outside the theatre. Given the choice, I’d rather be in Yonkers!
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I was Volunteer of the Decade with the Central California AIDS Foundation.
If you could have dinner with one person, who would it be and why?
Bette Midler, because I have so many questions to ask.
Why did you decide to become an SHN member?
We’ve been SHN followers since before Wicked so the conversion to membership was easy. SHN delivers a replica of the Broadway experience we want, and their customer service has been first-rate as well.
